End food waste: More than 200 meals were saved at Hindsgavl
Covid-19 put a stop to the execution of “Fødevaredagen” and suddenly Hindsgavl Castle had more than 200 meals without any recipients. This became a good occation to think creatively and take old methods in to use.
The 29th of September Danish Agriculture & Food Council and Hindsgalv Castle should have held the Danish Food Day. A whole day where the food industry meets to share insights and “food-nerdery” says Goderaavarer.dk
The day before the big event a sudden doubt about the interpretation of the Covid-19 restrictions arose, and the event was turned from a physical to a digital event. This meant that the more than 200 participants of the event had to stay home and Hindsgavl Slot was left with ingredients for feeding these guests at breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks.
Despite having less than 24hours of notice Hindsgavl found a solution that put an end to what could have been massive amounts of food waste and a great economic loss. The solution was to take ancient methods into use that our ancestors used to preserve food, so they could last longer.
This way Hindsgalv managed to save the ingredients and stock up on food that can last the year out. Not wasting a thing.
